school board meeting

School Board Meeting April 14th, 2026

The first half of the meeting was for recognizing and presenting of awards to students from different schools and for designation of dates in May 2026 for different proclamations.

St. Augustine Montessori Charter school requested to renew their contract for 5 years.

During the April 7, 2026 School Board meeting, it was expressed by the school board members the accuracy and timeliness of submitting the school’s financials to the board.

Discussion followed and Dr. Thomson would like to monitor the school’s financials more closely. She also said that the scores that were presented were an average of 3 years of testing, which made it difficult to know the actual scores. She then asked District administrators to rank all scores for K-5, from all schools in the district for Reading and Math. Montessori schools ranked near the bottom, out of the 12 Montessori schools, 9 were below the state average with 3 scoring above average. This is the level of our most challenging schools. Dr. Thomson then asked Ms. Barerra if she would consider amending her motion to renewing the contract for 3 years with an academic review in one year? This new motion was unanimously passed.

Budget Amendment

The repayment of $8,825,000 to the state was for over estimation of student growth. 126 total students were lost to vouchers. The vast majority of this dollar amount is the result of overestimating student growth.
